Someone had
to keep building.
It is easy to support privacy when it costs nothing. I wanted to make something for the people who keep doing the work when that changes. The ones willing to take responsibility for tools they believe should still exist.
Ashigaru emerged after the arrest of Samourai Wallet’s founders in 2024. An independent team of former users began building on Samourai’s open-source code. Their first wallet release continued that work while removing its reliance on Samourai’s infrastructure. A separate project, carrying forward a commitment to private, voluntary exchange.
That decision is what this tribute is about. Reading the code. Maintaining it. Rebuilding what is needed. Choosing to continue when stepping away would have been easier. To me, there is real courage in that kind of persistence.
Privacy needs people who turn principles into something others can actually use. I respect the people behind Samourai for what they built, and the people behind Ashigaru for picking up the tools and taking the work forward.
The code survives. Those words run through this design because open source only stays alive when someone cares enough to work on it. This is my thank-you to those people. Independent fan art, made out of respect for their effort and resolve.
Take the art.
Make it yours.
Print it. Wear it. Rework it.
